Restoration works was carried out to reinforce and replace decrepit structure, materials, doors & windows for the tenant, which was Goethe Institute.  Improvement work involved the addition of a new 2nd storey roof terrace, structural strengthening for the library’s floor loading, and the widening of staircases .

The interior of the building reflects German product and communication design in harmony with the historic building fabric. As the shophouse uses timber floors and staircases, we also had to upgrade the building’s fire safety works to ensure that the timber floor boards fulfilled the fire resistance rating requirements.
